Context of human services Essay Example for Free

Context of human services Essay Social changes in diverse societies are brought about by several factors such as maintaining order and responsibility within and outside the society. In this case, human services such as attending offering medical attendance, and avoidance of social evils such as corruption, are portrayed as major opportunities for the social changes. Many people see mental anomaly as curable. In real case, one cannot be completely cured from it, but the most promising fact is that it can be recovered and maintained. People in the society are more often encouraged to live with mentally challenged as they support them from day to day. They should be friendly to them since it is not the wish of the victims to be what they are. Family environment has been considered the best in provision of care to the victims of mental illness. Presently, many people prefer discharging their patience from hospitals as soon as possible since the expenses increases from day to day. Insurance reimbursements by both private and governmental sectors usually provide a cover of not more than sixty days to the patients. These days are adequate enough to recover the mental patients. Several organizations have come up to attend the patience and also provide moral support to them. For example, The Office of Protective Commission and the Public Guardian has been established to help the mentally challenged individuals cope with the environment they are in. such organizations have maintained social order as evidenced from their efforts to protect the ill from being taken advantage of (Hasenfeld, 2009) Members of the society should be encouraged and given knowledge about the mental disorder. In so doing, they will be actively encouraged to handle the victims with proper care, love, respect and most of all with dignity since the victims are also human beings thus they deserve tender care. Mental illness has got no specific cause. However, causes has been identified as either due to hereditary factors (it exists in the family linage), caused by organic diseases and even sometimes by environmental situations such as one being subjected to adverse stress. This disorder has got no borders and any person can be a victim, indiscriminate of his religion, gender or race and even age (Hopkins Austin, 2004) Health systems in some parts of the world are a times selective in provision of services to its customers. Not everyone stands equal rights in services offered. Depending on your pocket or rather financial strength one is likely to get better services than the poor. Patience that may require argent medical attention is kept on waiting bays for long. This is as a result of the financially stable personnel not observing the rule of first come first served basis. Such issues have been of much negativity to the society since others have lost their loved ones at the bays and the emergency rooms. Also, the limited number of qualified persons may be a contributing factor. In some circumstances, the patient attendants may be reluctant in provision of services. Evil thoughts that propel them towards this could be such as assuming that patients could have gone to private organizations with relatively shorter queues than theirs, for fast delivery of services. It is much disgusting to realise existence of inequality in any society. This is whereby when one is rich, he/she gets richer and richer, and in most instances at the expense of others (Pease Camilleri , 2001). Strengthening the civil society can be a way of addressing social issues such as social injustices, discrimination, violence and even poverty. A strong society can enhance better governance, tolerance and can also maintain peace within its borders. People who are socially responsible have got no time to engage in activities that will in one way or another haunt others, for example negligently polluting the environment, discriminating against others and even engaging in violence. Currently, reforms have been put in place with an aim of strengthening communities. Public are encouraged to participate in policy making. Several governments have taken initiatives of letting its citizens participate in decision making thus enabling the nation to thrive well in terms of political, economical and social development (Patti ,2008). Social evils such as corruptions are a major issue towards the existence of social injustices. Corruption has been a reason behind increase in the levels of poverty in the societies and also retarded growth in the economy. Corruption is as a result of poor governance. Those in the government can carelessly use the funds at the expense of the public thus being a leeway to social irresponsibility. It is clear therefore that this evil in the society should be emphasized on and properly dealt with so as to bring social order and also desirable changes for the development in the society (Laurence Heinrich, 2000). In summary, it is clear that opportunities of success in terms of social changes can be as a result of human participation in service provision. Social order is enhanced through provision of better services in diverse sectors and also through good governance.

They made brand innovative, changed the target market and made the licensing very strong. They made the companies enjoy the boom but further decisions of line extension were still a matter of concern for the company. The actions they should take are the proper market survey and Research for the new product; they should carry out proper likeness test for the new brand. It should prudently define its distribution strat egy along with the media strategy. They should go for proper planning before launch of new perfume and other brands this brand can be proved to be very successful if they would make it according to the taste of the target customers. Introduction: The company was established in 1856 as fabric retailer it gone through extensive brand extension in two decades through licensing and globalization, it made numerous distributions channels and operated in numerous countries. Company was purchased by GUS (Shipping Corporation) in 1955, it went through global extension in 1970s and before that it went for IPO (Initial public offering) of the shares. In 1990s company got lesser control on the licensing and distribution channels and they went into extensive brand line extension decisions which had a negative impact on the companys performance , quality focused was lost and company decided to change its positioning and licensing strategy along with the management. Environmental Analysis It is evaluation of the probable impacts of external and internal forces and conditions and their effect on the survival and growth of the company, so there are numerous factors that affected the companies positioning and branding lets discuss all of the factors in detail along with companies competitive advantage and Unique selling proposition. BCG Matrix According to the BCG matrix the product was in question mark stage in Asian countries as the market share is low because of bad economic condition, in some countries it was a Cash Cow and in UK and US this brand is proved to be Star with the high market share and high growth potential. Porters Five Forces: Porters five forces in this case can evaluate Burberrys position in the market as compared to its competitors, suppliers and customers. Suppliers Bargaining Power: It was a British based company and it was into production of its own fabric so in its case suppliers power was not the major issue. Initially it was not facing any problem and there was consistency in its suppliers and it continued in the later years as well. So we can say that in this case Suppliers power was very low. Customers Bargaining Power: Customers bargaining power was also low in this case because the product was standardized and it was a premium brand with premium quality so customer had lesser bargaining power. Substitutes: Substitutes were the basic threat for the company as there were numerous products in the market that can replace the use of Burberrys products but its breathable cloth was the best one still they had to make their products outclass to combat the threat of substitutes by positioning their product as those which simply have no comparison. Rivalry: Rivalry and competition was strong. Foreign and Local companies were striving for share. Numerous brands were there in the markets which were offering the same products. And pirated products made more problems in Asia and other countries where there are lesser laws on pirating Entrants: The barriers to entry were very low as any company can jump into the line of fabric as the initial cost is very low but competing with a brand like Burberry was the basic concern for the companies. Rivalry Intense competition (High) Competitive Advantage: Companys competitive advantage was its patterns, styles originality quality, Symbol of royalty, luxury and durability. Company was in the business for more than hundred years and it had gone through many hard times but it tried to regain its competitive advantage and its originality till the end. The companies motive was to provide functionality along with class,, it tried to meet customer expectations till the present date. PEST Analysis: Political environment Political conditions did not have any impact on company standing as the policies of trade are seemingly pro-trade and there is no single evidence of political disturbance. Economic environment: Economic Condition was not very suitable for the company as this era was the era of recession so the company faced many points to take proper strategic decisions. It went thorough public offering and was being acquired by shipping company to sustain the business. Social environment Social environment was very good because people were more convenience and fashion oriented and they wanted innovation and stylish fabric which could also serve their functional need. Technological environment Company went through numerous technological changes by devising new ways of production of fabrics and efficient plants. SWOT Analysis: Strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats we have identified from the case are given below. Strengths: Companies basic strength was it standing and its fame people used to trust the brand, it was more than 150 years old brand having extensive product line, its premium quality and trust it built up in years was its strength. Its functional fabric was its excellence. Weaknesses: The weaknesses of the brand are its perception. It was perceived as a conservative brand having old customers and no innovation, its price and distribution inconsistency made more problems . Its image was eroding. Marketing plan and positioning was up-to-the mark. Opportunities: They have heritage and strong brand association. They can invent new product lines. They have capital so they can start with new products and can cater the needs of several markets. Global dealing with proper licensing was the biggest opportunity. Threats: The biggest threat for the company was the wrong strategic move, company had to compete in the market as many brands were in the marketing offering the same products . Corporate Strategy Ownership: Company had a single retail store in the beginning, then it went through the process of licensing and to Mitsui and Sanyo in Japan, then in went to Public offerings and global stores and distributions through wholesalers and retailers in year 1970, In year 1990 it took extensive licensing which proved to be damaging and later on after the change in management they made this licensing policy very aligned to the company policy. Now the company has 3162 wholesales, 434 departmental stores, 2728 specialty stores and its planning to have market extension in coming decade as well. Target Market and Positioning Strategy: Initially they targeted all age groups who belonged to all occupation groups, then with the deterioration of the brand they left with the age group which was above 40 so company took strategic move and became fashion oriented to target the younger segment along with the old age people. Positioning strategy of the product was very good in the initially days , it was positioned as a premium brand and the brand of the adventurous people later on with its extension and weak licensing policies it went through numerous problems. It was endorsed thorough the adventurous people initially then its perception of quality and consistency went bad and later on with the change of management it was positioned as the product of sporty people. Extensive Research and Development: It is evident from the success of the brand that Burberry has had a very strong Research and Development (RD) in the past. The higher management should ensure that before the launch of a new product in the market the marketing department is fully aware of the market the brand intends to target in order to get the wanted response from the customers. It is very important to keep the image of Burberry as a luxurious brand intact. Suggestions: In order to address the problems faced by Burberry for launching new products and brand in the market, the company should use the following strategies: 1. The customers perception of the brand will get affected and hence it will destabilize the brand once again. This will not only help in increasing fans, but will also give the brand needed exposure. One to One Communication :: Communication Body Language Health Care Essays

One to One Communication To practice one to one communication I spoke to someone who regularly attends the ‘Princess of Wales’ Hospital, Bridgend for physiotherapy on his knee after an operation 6 months ago. From this interaction I found that the service from the NHS was satisfactory and adequate, but could use some improvements. I spoke to the patient mainly about waiting times for appointments and operations, as that appeared to be the main cause for concern. I conducted the one to one interaction in the patient’s living room, so that the surroundings were familiar to him and he would feel more at ease. As the room was decorated in warm colours it created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, which contributed to making it easier to open up and talk freely. Skill Used ========== Comment ======= Body language I used open and friendly body language towards the client and didn’t cross my arms or anything so that I didn’t come across as intimidating. This is because body language makes a great impact on interaction. Gestures I regularly used hand gestures to put emphasis on what I was saying as gestures are a strong part of effective communication. Eye contact I regularly maintained eye contact with the client during my interaction. This helped to show that I was interested in what he had to say and also so that he knew when it was his turn to speak. Facial expressions I used appropriate facial expressions to match my topic of conversation so not to confuse the client, and to show interest in what he had to say. Open questions Open questions require extended answers and make the client feel that their opinions are valued. I tried to use mostly open questions to facilitate the conversation and so that the conversation flowed and did not feel like an interrogation. Closed questions I tried not to ask many closed questions, unless I needed more specific information, as they can make people feel uncomfortable and inhibit conversation. Probes and prompts I used probes and prompts to make the client give more in depth information and to help him to think more about the subject that I was questioning them on. I used prompts to help the client understand what I was asking by suggesting a possible answer. Paraphrasing To check that I had heard and understood the client properly I used paraphrasing as a way of reflecting back to him. Paraphrasing also helped him to clarify exactly what it is they were saying, because he had to listen to the paraphrase and work out whether that is what he meant to say. The particular individuals involved, the relationship between the individuals, the subject of the communication and the physical

Free Narrative Essays - Trip Through The Soft Soft Sand :: Personal Narrative Essays

Trip Through The Soft Soft Sand It was a warm, dry summers day in the great bowl of Nevada's desert when I made my grave error. We learn from our errors, so in some cases it doesn't hurt to make them provided there is not a permanent repercussion from your mistake. I have a rock that reminds me of this incident and I would like to tell you how this rock resembles my experience. Jamie(my girlfriend) and I were returning on a Sunday afternoon from a very successful and safe caving trip to the Great Basin National Park. The weather was just right for traveling and we were reminiscing about all of the beautiful natural formations we saw underground. Caving is a very exciting sport, upon entering a cave you leave the mundane world behind and enter a wonderful wonderland. From the commonly known stalactites and stalagmites to the lesser known soda straws and cave bacon. After a few days of exploring caves in the park we were ready to head home. With tired muscles and dusty bodies we were ready for warm showers and soft beds. Upon exiting the park and traveling along the long strait path of the highway home we spotted a dark hole in a rock formation along the side of the road. Being true cavers and adventurous types we decided we had to poke our heads in to take a look around. I veered off the road in started heading in the direction of the rock formation. Unfortunately although driving along what seemed to be tracks I was getting myself deeper and deeper into very soft sand. This was my mistake, traveling along a path that was untested and the whereabouts of the destination unknown. "Are you sure you know what you are doing" said Jamie as the tires began to spin more and more in the soft particles of sand. "Sure, don't you see the tracks in the sand? Others have been this way, and hey, if they can do it, why can't we?" I said this half heatedly based on the fact that I was moving slower and slower as we progressed. Seeing that we were close enough to the precipice I stopped the car

Should Committed Environmentalists Choose to Adopt a Vegan/Vegetarian D

Introduction The environmental impacts of a diet based in animal products is well documented and is the source of much debate. According to a controversial United Nations report entitled Livestock's Long Shadow (2006),â€Å"The livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.† For those committed to reducing their environmental impacts, one solution would be to transfer to a vegetarian or even vegan diet. It is not necessarily ethical to prescribe one way of being for environmentalists all over the world, especially without thinking about differences in cultures. However, most committed environmentalists should adopt a vegetarian or vegan diet, with a few caveats. This is because (1) animal products are an inefficient source of protein in terms of environmental impact, (2) the greenhouse gas emissions from an animal product-based diet is significantly higher than a plant-ba sed diet and (3) animals are part of the environment and their treatment is as important as the treatment of the planet as a whole. Differing views Among Environmentalists Environmentalists take up many causes in their fight to protect nature. Their tactics can involve direct-action, petitions, media stunts and boycotts. Boycotting a company that is involved in unethical behaviour can be very effective and one of the simplest, most direct ways to exercise your consumer power, since most of the world's population is embedded in the capitalist economic system. Three areas that research has shown we contribute most of our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is through transportation, home energy and food, all areas in which committed environmentalists are ... ...rent dietary protein choices, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, vol. 78, p. 664s-668s. Midterm review Essay

I thought I would just offer some guidelines for study for the essay portion of the midterm exam. Remember that you will have 3 hours to complete the exam. You may use your notes, articles, etc., but you need to have familiarity with the material before you start or you may run out of time. Remember also that you can only enter the test one time, so you can’t go away and start again†¦be prepared†¦these are possible essay questions†¦familiarize yourself with these topics and know how to write thorough responses to the questions. Baase states that it is not only technologies and systems that change quickly, but also the social impacts and controversies that are inherent in such rapid development. Discuss some of the positive and negative aspects that the pace of advancement has upon our culture as a whole. Use detailed examples. What are some of the key impacts of the Industrial Revolution? You may discuss not only ones which came about within the time-span attributed to the Industrial Revolution, but also those which stretched long past the end of that particular historical era. Do you agree with the assertion that we are now living in a third-great technological transformation—the Knowledge Revolution? Have computers truly changed our lives so much that we can call this a revolution like the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century? Support your answer providing specific comparisons from the two periods. Discuss the Neolithic Revolution, citing its importance in terms of laying the groundwork for the ongoing development of technological advances throughout history. Utilize specific examples in order to better illustrate your arguments. Discuss the specific role the Protestant Reformation played in laying the groundwork for the advancement of communication techniques and technologies within Western culture. Define and compare at least two of the ethical theories described by Baase. What are their strengths? In what areas do they lack? Do these theories hold up within our modern, technological society? Has the development of digital technologies democratized the art of photography? How has this affected our appreciation of the photographer as artist and photography as an art form? Explain using specific examples. How have  changes in technology affected the recording industry and our understanding of what it means to be a professional musician? How have changes in technology affected our access to recorded music and the control exercised by traditional distributors? How will all these changes affect cultural trends and our expectations of music as an art form? Provide specific examples. How have changes in communications technologies affected how we write and what we write? How do Wikis and blogs compare to traditional forms such as textbooks and newspaper editorials? Please be specific. I hope that this helps guide your preparation.

Helping English Language Learners in the Classroom Essay

Learners from different background and surroundings have different perceptions towards learning English. Their surroundings contribute to their more or less of understanding of towards English language learning. From urban to rural settings, most schools are in charge for educating English language to students. In relation to that matter, teachers of English language in schools are also facing several difficulties in teaching English in the classroom. The first issue is age. In general, the older the student the more difficult it is for them to learn the second language naturally. It is advisable to enroll the child in the beginning levels so he/she hears a combination of English and his native language. Learners who are still young are like a white paper they can grasp and understand the rules and regulations of English grammar easily as they are not yet influenced by the other language. Teaching communication for them is also easy as they can absorb the new things and comprehend the language with teacher guidance. Whereas older students or learners are exposed to many new things and they were influence from what they see, read and hear so the process of teaching English language is a little affected because of their prior knowledge. Older students need more support to encourage them to work hard in their studies, hence helping them to learn English language. The second issue is native language. Sometimes, native language plays a big role in influencing the learners to the new language. t can sometimes confuse them as some word in the first language has the spelling as the new language. So, the educator needs to be focus and consistent in explaining them. Hence, fluent in their native language is considered an extra credit too. A student who is good in his/her rules and regulations of his/her native language and also fluent in his first language is often considered as lucky. As such it is an advantage when they are learning English. The proximity of speech sound for oral communication and whether or not the first language uses Roman letter for writing are also considered as an important factor in English proficiency. When there are some similarities of first language and English language the teaching of the target will be easier. The teachers and learners can both use their first language knowledge to be adopt and adapt in the learning of English language. Lastly, the third issue is literacy of parents. Parents who are not concerned with their children learning often have some effects to their children’s learning. This is same as parents who are not educated in school cannot help their children at home. So, the teaching and learning of English language in classroom at school will a little hard for the unexposed students. The level of literacy of a student’s parents may also affect the acquisition of written language. In average, the more fluent the parent the more fluent the child is. As it is mention earlier, the fluency of a learner in the native language promotes acquisition of English. Teachers need to know about their students’ cultures, it can help teachers to communicate to theirs students well. By doing this, it shows that teacher value their heritage and it will also allow teacher to connect academic content to a student’s set of experiences and knowledge about the world. Eventually, students of target language whose native culture is valued have a greater sense of self-worth and higher academic achievement.
